Legal Aid in crisis as prominent Toronto Criminal Lawyers protest

The Globe and Mail has reported that many high-profile Toronto defence lawyers have withdrawn from the legal-aid system until the Ontario government increases their rate of pay, something which has not happened in over a decade.  The Criminal Lawyers’ Association board has voted to stop accepting new Legal Aid Ontario cases related to gangs, guns or homicides in the Greater Toronto Area, and approximately 80 prominent defence lawyers have agreed to sign on… <More Here>
